Why is hydronic or hot water heat better than hot air heat?
It is better because with hot water heat we have more control over the distribution of heat or energy to a space. There are a wide variety of
systems and equipment that can be used to heat a space from
radiators to baseboard to fans to the floor or wall of the
room itself.
Can I use a hot water heater as my heat source?
Yes, but... a hot water heater is designed to heat potable
water. It heats the water but there is not the control nor
the efficiency provided by a boiler for heating purposes.
Can I install radiant heat in a house with baseboard?
Yes, most systems can be retrofitted, there are a wide variety
of products that can be adapted too many different construction
methods. Radiant can be retrofitted into a small bathroom
or an entire house. The northeast has many opportunities for
retrofitting.
